748aca71-58a3-4da1-a8da-f7120a637e10

Outdoor recreation, public land, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are under attack in Iowa's legislative session.

Senate File 2324—a bill aimed at limiting opportunities to permanently protect properties with significant ecological and recreational value in the state of Iowa—passed the state Senate this afternoon, and the bill’s sponsors will now try to pass a House companion bill.

Act now and voice your opposition to ALL Iowa House Members opposing the Senate File 2324 and any House companion bill!

Recall that earlier this month the Senate and House filed similar bills aimed at limiting land protection in Iowa. Thanks to your outreach to lawmakers, we defeated that initial attack—we need your help again today to ensure that progress on SF 2324 stops in the House!

PF & QF Supporter Action Requested:

ACTION: Call your representatives TODAY (click here for their contact information) and politely urge them to OPPOSE SF 2324 and any House companion bill. At this time, we don’t know which House committee the Senate legislation will be referred to. If further action is needed, we will send an update.

  1. The language passed by the Senate and that will be picked up in the House would prohibit the Iowa Department of Natural Resources from acquiring property at auction.
    • Iowan’s are in overwhelming support of increased investments in conservation, outdoor recreation, access, and improvements in soil, water, and wildlife habitat. This would have massive implications in the ability to strategically protect properties with significant ecological and recreational value in Iowa.

  1. Additionally, this bill prohibits the Iowa Department of Natural Resources from acquiring land from a nonprofit that purchased property at auction.
    • This would restrict conservation organizations from assisting the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in permanently protecting and increasing access to outdoor recreation to all Iowans.

These bills will restrict future investments in public lands that are critically important to Iowa’s natural resources, water quality, economic health, and the overall quality of life for all Iowans. Please voice your opposition today!
