Landowners in Iowa now have expanded opportunities to enroll property in a popular Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) practice. Thanks to a new allocation of CRP acres by the USDA’s Farm Service Agency, the State Acres for Wildlife Enhancement (SAFE) CRP practice – including Iowa Pheasant Recovery, Gaining Ground for Wildlife, and a new Early Successional Quail Habitat initiative – total 115,000 acres and are now available to landowners interested in creating and conserving upland habitat for pheasants, quail and other grassland wildlife.

Supporting the conservation efforts of native quail species in Kansas, Quail Forever has announced it will be hosting the 1^st annual Kansas Governor’s Quail Hunt for Habitat on January 13 & 14, 2017 in Emporia, Kansas. 

Recognized for her contributions to restore and manage bobwhite quail habitat in Tennessee, Brittney Viers of Quail Forever was recently presented the National Fire Bird Conservation Award at a recent gathering of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency on behalf of the National Bobwhite Conservation Initiative (NBCI). 

In a joint effort to restore bobwhite quail to the Piedmont region of South Carolina, Quail Forever has partnered with the U.S. Forest Service and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to hire Jordan Nanney as the state’s new Quail Focus Area Coordinator.

In an effort to improve wildlife habitat and the health of private forest lands, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced additional incentives available for Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) participants to actively manage forest lands enrolled in the program.

In an effort to highlight the organization’s growing impact on quail habitat across America’s Great Plains, Quail Forever joins Pheasants Forever’s Rooster Road Trip 2016 - Upland Nation for a second week of public lands upland hunting. A fresh group of wingshooters will head to Oklahoma for the state’s quail opener with online reports starting on Monday, November 14^th, and further reports from Kansas and Nebraska throughout the week. 

Pheasants Forever & Quail Forever is celebrating the 10^th anniversary of its National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) – chapter-nominated individuals ages 13-18 who are tasked with being spokespersons for their age group on national issues regarding the outdoors – and touting the efforts of its individual members for their work on conservation issues since 2006.

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever has begun preparations for its annual celebration of upland hunting and conservation, the 2017 National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic, being hosted at the Minneapolis Convention Center on February 17, 18 & 19. The event will represent the nation’s largest convention for upland hunters, landowners, sporting dogs, and wildlife habitat conservationists. The 2017 National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic is presented by Federal Premium® Ammunition.

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever is pleased to announce the promotion of several longtime Farm Bill biologists – Erin Holmes, Brady Wooten, and Brandon Beltz – to new positions within “The Habitat Organization.” 

Quail Forever has been recognized with its fifth consecutive 4-star rating from Charity Navigator – the nation’s largest charity evaluator – and is now included in the top 6 percent of charities in the country to receive such designation.

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever recently named Jason Jenkins as the organization’s new monarch & pollinator coordinator in the state of Missouri. Collaborating with a statewide coalition of public and private interests, Jenkins will work to increase and sustain habitat for monarch butterflies and other pollinators, which will also benefit pheasants and quail, through citizen involvement and seek ways for partners, communities and agencies to coordinate similar efforts.

Upland hunters in northeast Kansas are striving to conserve and promote habitat for bobwhite quail, pheasants, and other wildlife with the formation of the Kaw Valley Chapter of Quail Forever in Shawnee and Wabaunsee counties. 

Iowa’s quail population index has been increasing recently and is now at its highest since 1989 after experiencing increases again across south central and southwest Iowa this year.

Hunters and anglers who agree that the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) works for wildlife, sportsmen, and landowners can now show their support for enhancing the program in the next Farm Bill.

Quail Forever is excited to announce the hiring of Kenny Barker as the organization’s new regional representative in Florida and Georgia. In his new role, Barker will support the growing network of local chapters which fuel habitat conservation efforts and shooting sports initiatives in the Southeast, while acting as a liaison to local, state and federal natural resource agencies on behalf of Quail Forever.
