Quail Forever Debuts “On the Wing” Podcast

Recorded in-person and occasionally from the end of a tailgate, Quail Forever & Pheasants Forever's “On the Wing” podcast has taken flight, now available on iTunes, Stitcher, and Soundcloud. The podcast will primarily be hosted by veteran wingshooter Bob St.Pierre, Quail Forever’s vice president of marketing and communications.

“On the Wing” features stories with the organization’s biologists, members, volunteers and experts on the topics of upland bird hunting, wildlife habitat, bird dogs, wild game cooking and epic adventures afield. At the core of each episode, the new podcast strives to bring the mission of Quail Forever and Pheasants Forever full circle, focusing on the topic of the day and deciphering how it personally impacts upland conservation for each guest.

“The goal is to introduce the passionate personalities of Quail Forever and Pheasants Forever's habitat mission to a new audience of potential uplanders,” explains St. Pierre. “Whether you’re driving to your annual bird hunting destination or battling rush hour traffic, we hope this new podcast will serve as your soundtrack to the uplands and amp up your commitment to the birds we cherish.”

Whether one is considering joining the ranks of Quail Forever and Pheasants Forever, or perhaps a 35-year card-holding member, the new podcast is designed to be all-encompassing and a gateway to upland traditions.   Episode 1: Anatomy of a Pheasants Forever Land Acquisition with Eran Sandquist
Hosts: Bob St. Pierre & Anthony Hauck

During our inaugural podcast, we chat with Eran Sandquist, Pheasants Forever’s Minnesota state coordinator and a wildlife biologist, about the organization’s efforts to create public hunting access through land acquisition. When it comes to pheasant habitat, not all land is created equal. Also discussed is Minnesota’s ground-breaking Legacy Amendment passed by voters in 2008, a vital piece of legislation for outdoorsmen and women which has accelerated Pheasants Forever’s efforts to acquire 55,000 acres of public lands over the past 10 years. We close the show with Eran’s pheasant hunting forecast for Minnesota.

Episode 2: Dating and Dogs with Tina and Tom Dokken
Hosts: Bob St. Pierre & Anthony Hauck

The “Dokken” name has become synonymous with dog training. In this episode, we learn about Tom’s evolution as one of the most recognized dog trainers in the country. Joining Tom is his wife, Tina, who discusses the role bird dogs played while dating Tom. Tina also chats about the challenges to becoming a female bird hunter as an adult, as well as the clothing, gear and shotgun advances being made for women.  We finish the conversation with a discussion about the use of drones in dog training and finally, the million dollar question – can your bird dog tell the difference between a rooster and a hen pheasant by scent?
