Quail Forever is excited to announce the hiring of Kenny Barker as the organization’s new regional representative in Florida and Georgia. In his new role, Barker will support the growing network of local chapters which fuel habitat conservation efforts and shooting sports initiatives in the Southeast, while acting as a liaison to local, state and federal natural resource agencies on behalf of Quail Forever.
Quail Forever has announced Tim Caughran as the organization’s new director of field operations. A 13-year employee at “The Habitat Organization,” Caughran is now responsible for raising the profile of Quail Forever in the quail range through volunteer leads, chapter starts, partnership expansion, and further implementation of Quail Forever programs.
Pheasants Forever & Quail Forever is honored to announce the retirement of Jim Wooley, a 31-year veteran of “The Habitat Organization” and the current Director of Field Operations for Quail Forever. Wooley transitions into retirement on August 5th after serving an illustrious career in the state of Iowa, defined by a lifelong pursuit for the betterment of wildlife and public lands throughout the state.
Avid quail hunters and conservationists in Boone County, Arkansas, have formed the fourth chapter of Quail Forever in the state. Officially known as the Ozark Mountain Chapter of Quail Forever, local volunteers have set their sights on public and private land partnerships to positively influence quail numbers, while providing opportunities for youth to experience the outdoor lifestyle through the organization’s No Child Left Indoors Initiative.
Quail Forever and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) have entered into a partnership agreement to create a joint Habitat Strike Team – a crew of specialized habitat management biologists – to improve wildlife habitat within the state’s quail range on public and private lands.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that 800,000 acres will be enrolled through three different components of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). Of particular note, USDA’s CRP general sign-up completed at the end of February generated more than 1.8 million acres in offers, but was only able to accept 23 percent of the 26,000 landowner applications because of the program’s 24 million acre cap.
