Volunteers Kick-Start New Women on the Wing Chapter of Quail Forever in Mississippi

October 20, 2025 – Mississippi – Quail Forever (QF) is proud to introduce the newest chapter in the Southeast. The Magnolia State Women on the Wing Chapter will cover Mississippi and Alabama, providing a unique space for women to engage with conservation and the outdoors.

Unique among national conservation organizations, chapters of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever retain 100 percent decision-making control over fundraising dollars, allowing volunteers to support impactful wildlife habitat projects, public access initiatives and conservation education programs throughout the upland bird range. QF’s Mississippi regional representative, Mike Acker, will work closely with the new chapter to support the organization’s vision to sustain abundant populations of wild quail, pheasants and other wildlife.

“I’m excited to see the impact this chapter will have on local communities as they have a very passionate core group of leaders dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for women of all experience levels to join the conservation space,” Acker said.

Working together with Acker to form this chapter was fellow QF team member, Olivia Lappin, who serves as a biologist in the region.

“Having picked up hunting for the first time four years ago while in grad school at Mississippi State, I had always wished a group like this existed in my area,” Lappin said. “I learned more about the program when I started this job and was interested in starting a Women on the Wing chapter. I later found out that Aubree Plymale, another QF biologist in Alabama, shared my same interest.”

The volunteers hope to open the doors to a diverse group of women who are interested in hunting, the outdoors, and conservation. Their goal is to create a space for women hunters and outdoor enthusiasts to engage and educate the community about the importance of hunting and conservation throughout quail country.
