Quail Forever is proud to announce the hiring of Michael Acker to serve as regional field representative in the states of Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi. In his new role, he will provide support for volunteers in all three states, featuring 22 local chapters and more than 2,000 members. Acker will collaborate with volunteer chapters to improve public and private lands conservation efforts for quail and other wildlife.
“Michael brings a lot of professional experience and passion for upland hunting to the position,” said Matt Christensen, Quail Forever’s field services manager. “His region is ripe for growth in the organization and we’re all very excited to see what he can bring to Quail Forever.”
Quail Forever empowers county and local chapters with the responsibility to determine how 100 percent of their locally raised conservation funds will be spent - the only national conservation organization that operates through this grassroots structure. As a result, chapter volunteers can see the fruits of their efforts locally, while belonging to a larger national organization with a voice on federal and state conservation policy. Acker will be responsible for helping chapters achieve these local conservation results, while also connecting them to Quail Forever on a national scale. Additionally, he’ll be charged with helping carry out Quail Forever’s
Call of the Uplands campaign, which will close its final chapter at National Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic in Minneapolis, Minn. in February 2023.
Acker grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater before starting his professional career in industrial sales. He’s a lifelong bird dog owner and upland hunter who relocated to the south in 2002. He currently lives in northern Alabama with his wife, Jill. When he’s not working, Acker can be found pursuing upland birds throughout the country and spending time with his seven grandchildren.
“This area has such great potential for growth,” Acker said. “At one time Alabama was considered to have more quail than any other state in the country and we have some pretty exciting habitat restoration work going on to try and restore some of that historic population, so I’m very excited to be a part of that, not only in Alabama but Tennessee and Mississippi as well.”
