John Milledge Academy Quail Forever Schooling Youth on Outdoors

Residents of Baldwin County, Georgia, have formed the state’s third Quail Forever chapter, to be known as the John Milledge Academy Quail Forever. The chapter will work to create opportunities for youth to be involved in shooting sports and Georgia’s quail hunting heritage.

Leading the chapter as its first president is Jeff Jackson of Milledgeville. Jackson and members plan to use Quail Forever’s local model to have the chapter become a driving force in the Milledgeville community for youth outdoor education and the shooting sports. “My sons’ Blake and Graham, interest in the competitive shooting and hunting have been motivation for me to become involved with Quail Forever. We hope implement the shooting sports and hunting through our school district as a way for the youth of today to understand about the state’s habitat and environment,” says Jackson.

Pheasants Forever launched Quail Forever in August of 2005 to address the continuing loss of habitat suitable for quail and the subsequent quail population decline. QF chapters promote local, state, and federal conservation programs that help landowners protect environmentally sensitive acres for quail and other wildlife. They also employ the organization's unique model of empowering local chapters with 100 percent control of the chapters' locally-raised funds to complete habitat and youth education projects in the chapters' own communities.

"Georgia quail hunters and conservationists continue to show a strong commitment to conservation and getting the next generation of hunters outdoors," said Shon Robbins, Quail Forever regional wildlife biologist, "This chapter cares about maintaining and bettering this resource and keeping the great tradition of quail hunting alive. I strongly encourage other members of this community to step up to the plate the way these guys have and come help out at our next meeting."

The chapter has also elected Tanya Goette as chapter treasurer. For more information on the chapter and its upcoming meeting, please contact Jeff Jackson at (404) 579-5709 or email Jeff.

Pheasants Forever, including its quail conservation division, Quail Forever, is the nation's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to upland habitat conservation. Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever have more than 135,000 members and 720 local chapters across the United States and Canada. Chapters are empowered to determine how 100 percent of their locally raised conservation funds are spent, the only national conservation organization that operates through this truly grassroots structure.
