Quail Forever Increases Presence in Alabama with Chapter Start in Famed Black Belt Region

Alabama’s Black Belt Region is famous for its bird dog and field trial history, and now Alabama quail hunters have added yet another chapter of Quail Forever in this storied area. Officially known as the Alabama Black Belt Chapter of Quail Forever, the new chapter is building its presence in the Union Springs area with hopes of increasing bobwhite quail numbers through local habitat improvements in Pike, Montgomery, Bullock, Lowndes, Macon, Barbour, Lee, and Russell Counties in south-central Alabama.

“I’ve been involved in the tradition of quail hunting for years, as have many of our volunteers,” said newly-elected chapter president Brent Boswell. “We want to give back to our community by promoting quail hunting to our youth of today. We are also anxious to make a difference on public and private lands for quail by creating new habitat and enhancing existing habitat. We plan to hit the ground running with an event this fall in conjunction with one of the many field trials held here.”

“I’m excited to see the continued growth of Quail Forever Chapters in Alabama,” said Andy Edwards, regional biologist/representative for Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee. “The Alabama Black Belt chapter marks the third new group of volunteers in a year that have rallied to the cause for quail in Alabama. This chapter’s home base of Union Springs is in the heart of quail plantation country, an area rich in tradition for both quail and fine bird dogs. The new group will seek to embrace those traditions and ensure that today’s youngsters appreciate the value of quail and great hunting dogs.”
