A rescued bird dog, Chief, the 2 1/2 yrs Deutsch Drahthaar was a bit lacking in his hunting capabilities since his previous owner hunted him only a handful of times. However, Chief’s new owner Andrew White, Quail Forever farm bill wildlife biologist, took the challenge head-on after Elsa Gallagher, passionate dog-handler and Missouri QF quail coordinator, located him for Andrew.

“After a lot of help from family and friends, sweat, frustration, and a little finish training, Chief now takes to the field like a duck in water and now goes hunting almost every day during the Missouri quail/pheasant season,” says White. “He has already traveled to two states to hunt outside the Missouri borders for a little more experience.”

Chief is one of 3 featured dogs in an article due in the upcoming November issue of the Missouri Conservationist put out by the Missouri Department of Conservation.
