Shotgun Showcase 2019 Top-10 Pick:

A solidly-built, smooth-handling over/under for the economy-minded hunter ... now in 16-gauge

By Rachel Hoveland

Since its introduction, the Stevens 555 has proven a solid option for an economically priced over-under shotgun. The E model, introduced shortly after the Standard 555, features upgraded wood and improved features … and new for 2019, an exciting 16-gauge option. With so few options available for over-unders in 16-gauge, I was pleased to hear of the gentleman’s gauge addition to the 555 lineup.

The shotgun features satin-finished barrels and an engraved receiver that is, notably, truly scaled to gauge. The receiver is made of aluminum to save weight. The upgraded wood consists of imperial oiled Turkish walnut with detailed checkering.

“Beautiful finish on wood and engraving, while shooting smooth and light. Surprise of the day!” Reviewers left many comments like that on the shotgun’s attractive appearance, as well as its nice swing and balance. But watch out—the shell extractors are powerful!

Includes 5 flush choke tubes. Also available in 12-gauge, 20-gauge, 28-gauge and .410.

MSRP: $879

Weight: 6-8
