Georgia - The Peach State Posts Positive Trend

Forecast: Summer rainfall distribution across the state resulted in good nesting and brood rearing conditions for bobwhite quail, according to Reggie Thackston, program manager of the Wildlife Resources Division for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Georgia’s Wildlife Resources Division has released the revised Bobwhite Quail Implementation Plan for 2013-2023. “This plan targets habitat and bobwhite restoration across seven focal landscapes, including state Wildlife Management Areas (WMA), commented Thackston. “As a result of this plan, the Florida/Georgia Quail Coalition was established this spring to generate funding which will support bobwhite restoration, particularly on public lands.” Quail Forever is a contributing partner for this program which will work to provide more bobwhite quail hunting opportunities for Georgia hunters.

The overall quail hunting outlook for Georgia looks bright across landscapes with large blocks of suitable bobwhite habitat. The Chattahoochee Fall Line WMA, which is approximately 8,800 acres, was acquired by the state and will be open to hunting during the 2014 season. This WMA is located in Marion and Talbot Counties in west-central Georgia.
