Nebraska
Forecast: Nebraska bobwhite harvest in 2015 increased by 72.8 percent (total 91,472 ) compared with harvest numbers in 2014, with 52.3 percent more hunters spending 35.5 percent more days afield than in 2014. Though Nebraska does not currently conduct formal brood surveys, incidental observations indicate good production this year, according to upland game program manager Dr. Jeffrey Lusk. Spring whistle counts were also higher in most regions of the state compared to 2015.

Spring and summer weather conditions were fair throughout the state. “Early spring rains provided for good nesting and brood-rearing habitat, and the peak hatching period in June was almost completely dry,” Lusk said. “These conditions are conducive to a good quail season across the range of the bobwhite in Nebraska.” Nebraska Game and Parks compiles a region-by-region breakdown in its 2016 Upland Game Hunting Outlook.

Nebraska also continues to participate in the National Bobwhite Conservation Initiative’s Coordinated Implementation Program at the Meridian Quail Initiative focus area.
