Missouri
Forecast: Missouri statewide 2015 quail numbers were 54 percent above the 2014 index and 29 percent above the 10-year average, according to small game coordinator David Hoover with the Missouri Department of Conservation. Weather conditions and rainfall in Missouri this past year were highly variable, but in general, nesting conditions were fair to good across much of the state, particularly mid-June to mid-July. Based on anecdotal reports, the 2016 nesting season appears to be very similar to 2015, so hunters should expect a year similar to the 2015 season in areas of suitable habitat.

In February 2016, the “Strategic Guidance for Northern Bobwhite Recovery 2015-2025” plan was approved. This plan builds upon the previous 10-year recovery plan with a focus on research and management within priority geographies.

A more comprehensive quail forecast from the Missouri Department of Conservation is expected in October.
