Quail Forever Hires Dedicated Volunteer to Steer Organizational Efforts in Texas

Quail Forever has appointed Dustin McNabb, a Texas native and diehard quail hunter, to serve as the organization’s new Texas Regional Representative. In this role, McNabb will provide support for volunteers in the Lone Star State – currently home to 12 Quail Forever chapters and more than 1,900 members – as they focus on public and private lands habitat management efforts for quail and other wildlife.

“Three years ago, Dustin was introduced to the organization as the new president of a local chapter,” stated Chris McLeland, south region director for Quail Forever, “Today, he is now a staffer for The Habitat Organization thanks to his passion and commitment to our mission. We look forward to his contributions as a regional representative and believe he can help us grow a much larger footprint with chapters and partners for Quail Forever in Texas.”

In 2005, Quail Forever was formed in response to continued declines in quail populations and suitable quail habitat. Since that time, the organization has emerged as a national leader in wildlife habitat project accomplishments and advocacy efforts for one of the nation’s most cherished upland birds. Texas has been a pivotal state to the growth of Quail Forever in the southern Great Plains which now features a budding chapter base, four private lands wildlife biologists, and the addition of a single-state regional representative to help steer local grassroots efforts.

“Most folks will recognize the phrase ‘everything is bigger in Texas,’” stated Dustin McNabb, “It’s my goal to help grow Quail Forever to one of the largest conservation movements in the state. Quail Forever is an important organization for maintaining and improving the conservation legacy of Texas for future generations, and I’m very excited to get started on this new journey.”

Growing up in Texas, McNabb’s grandfather helped him nurture a love for the outdoors over several decades of hunting and fishing adventures. A graduate of South Plains College in 1997 with a degree in Applied Science, McNabb worked for the United States Department of Agriculture in College Station as a laborer before embarking on a 15-year engineering career with the Texas Department of Transportation. Before accepting his new post with Quail Forever, McNabb was a draftsman for five years with the private engineering firm, SGS Engineering, LLC, based in Lubbock.

McNabb currently serves as a volunteer president for the Llano Estacado Chapter of Quail Forever in Lubbock, Texas, bringing crucial D.C. advocacy and partnership building experience to his new position. McNabb officially started as the Texas Regional Representative on October 8.
