Georgia Quail Invitational Set for Another Record-Breaking Year

The Southwest Georgia Chapter of Quail Forever will host the Georgia Quail Invitational on January 25-27 in Albany, Georgia. This event draws attendees and sponsors from across the country for three days of fundraising, hunting, auctions, food, live music and more, all supporting wildlife habitat conservation and hunting traditions of the Southeast.

The Georgia Quail Invitational has helped the Southwest Georgia Chapter of Quail Forever donate more than $170,000 to local and national efforts since its inception in 2014. The chapter formed out of concern for the future of quail hunting by like-minded individuals. After a meeting in Albany the group decided to align with and join Quail Forever.

“We really saw quail hunting becoming a lost art,” said one of the original founders and current leaders of the Southwest Georgia Quail Forever Chapter, Bo Henry. “The common interests of preserving quail habitat and promoting youth hunting activities combined with the need to advocate for quail on a national level got this group started and still drives us today. Being able to host such a tremendous event that reaches so many people and generates so much support means a lot to us. It takes a year-round effort from numerous people, but the results speak for themselves, and the event is truly a one-of-a-kind experience.”

Attendees to the 2018 Georgia Quail Invitational will be treated to a premium experience. Thursday evening kicks off with an intimate “get to know you” reception at the historic Shackelford House for all VIP, hunters, Covey, Bronze, Silver and Gold sponsors and landowners. Hunting parties will be announced at this event so plans can be made for the weekend.

Friday and Saturday will feature some of the best quail hunting in the country. More than 50 hunters each day will take to the field as the festivities continue. On Saturday evening the closing celebration will include a large banquet, more raffles and significant silent auction items. Georgia-born singer and songwriter, Cole Taylor, will also perform in front of several hundred expected attendees. Over the course of three days, dozens of firearms, multiple hunt and vacation packages and countless other items will be up for bid or available via raffle.

“The Southwest Georgia Chapter of Quail Forever has made incredible donations to our Georgia/Florida Quail Coalition,” said Paul Grimes, bobwhite initiative coordinator, Georgia Department of Natural Resources. “These donations have resulted in hundreds of acres restored into quality habitat in the states’ Quail Focal Areas. Without their generosity and support, the program would never be the success that it is today. Support from chapters like this one will guarantee that future generations will always have quail hunting opportunities.”

Since 2014 the Southwest Georgia Quail Forever Chapter has donated to local and regional quail habitats, youth hunting sports, quail research and national legislative initiatives. These include the Tall Timbers Research Center and Dixie Plantation, Florida/Georgia Quail Coalition; Midway USA Foundation, No Child Left Indoors, local youth quail hunts for active military children, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Scholarship Fund, Purple Heart Tour hunting event for disabled veterans and Quail Forever’s Legislative Action Fund.
