Revenue from custom tags goes to state quail conservation efforts

If you’re a Texas quail hunter and you’ve been looking for a way to add a custom touch to your favorite vehicle that will show the whole world you’re a bird hunter while directly supporting Texas quail conservation, it’s your lucky day.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation has introduced a new bobwhite quail license plate that will not only make your ride the envy of all your bird-hunting buddies, it will also help fund the future of your passion. The Parks and Wildlife Foundation, which is the nonprofit that supports the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, introduced the bobwhite license plate to help fund quail conservation in Texas.
The custom plate, which features a bobwhite in flight and the words “Conserve Texas Quail” along the bottom, costs $30 a year in addition to the cost of your normal yearly license plates for cars, trucks, motorcycles, and RVs. Of that $30 annual fee, $22 of each plate sold goes directly to quail-related organizations for conservation efforts such as habitat improvement, education and boosting quail populations in Texas.
“We hope quail-loving Texans will buy the plate and bring visibility to the needed and ongoing conservation efforts for this cherished and iconic state game bird,” says Kelly R. Thompson, chairman emeritus of the foundation's board of trustees, who championed the new plate.
“I'm thrilled that Texans have another avenue of supporting quail habitat and restoration that allows more folks to help our birds,” says Quail Forever Regional Field Representative Laura McIver. “This helps keep the importance of saving our upland bird populations in the forefront, while making a difference at the same time. Thank you to the many organizations who really helped bring this to reality.”
The plate is available online (
conservation-plate.org) and at county tax assessor offices throughout the state where license plates are sold and renewed.
The plates are available immediately, so there is no need to wait until you receive a renewal notice for your current plates. Order any time and the annual fee will be pro-rated.
